Disappointment for the Swiss team in the classic technique sprint in Trondheim. It's over after the quarter-finals.
Nadine Fähndrich in particular was one of the losers in the stadium where she had made a big impression last winter with two World Championship bronze medals. She was surprisingly relegated to fifth place in her heat in the quarter-finals, despite having entered the home straight in the lead. Sweden's Emma Ribom and two young Norwegians in Nadine Fähndrich's group of six are already in top form, as they have to prove themselves in the tough internal team battle for Olympic tickets. Six Swedes alone were among the twelve semi-finalists, with Johanna Hagström ultimately the winner.
As in Kuusamo, Anja Weber reached the quarter-finals. This consistency is important for the Zurich athlete, as she wants to secure her ticket for the team sprint alongside Nadine Fähndrich with a view to the Olympic Games. Distance runner Nadja Kälin also made it through to the first knockout round.
As in Kuusamo, Valerio Grond hoped in vain for a lucky loser place to reach the semi-finals. Janik Riebli, who had impressed in Finland, had no chance this time in qualifying in 57th place.
Johannes Hösflot Klaebo successfully fought off four teammates and the young Swede Alvar Myhlback in the final. The exceptional skier thus celebrated his 100th individual World Cup victory - a historic mark, but not a record. Marit Björgen has 114 victories, not including the relays.
