Yannick Weber (No. 6) enjoys the only goal celebration on Sunday night in Zurich
Keystone
The ZSC Lions win the derby against Kloten 1-0 at an unusual time on Sunday evening, with defenseman Yannick Weber scoring in the 48th minute.
The champions thus confirmed once again that they have regained their footing in the new year. Although the ZSC Lions lost their first game of the new year in Geneva (3:5), they then won in succession against Lausanne (3:2), in Ajoie (5:3) and in Zug (3:2 n.V.) and now at home against Kloten. Zurich SC has won eight of the last ten rounds.
The 12,000 spectators in the arena were certainly not treated to a great spectacle. Neither team created many chances in the first period. Kloten stepped up their offensive efforts in the second period. It was not until the final period that Zurich defender Yannick Weber made it 1:0 with a direct shot. A little later, Pontus Aberg had the chance to decide the game with a penalty. But because he failed to score and Sven Andrighetto took another penalty in the final period, Kloten came close to equalizing once again.
Kloten have not scored a goal in two away games against the ZSC Lions this season (0:2 and 0:1) and only one in three derbies (1:4 defeat in Kloten).
The ZSC Lions consolidated 6th place in the table - the last place that will secure direct playoff qualification at the end of the qualifying campaign. Kloten remain in 11th place, five points behind 10th place, which is just enough to qualify for the play-in.
