Therese Johaug wants to give it another go. The Norwegian is returning to the big stage with a view to the World Championships in her own country next winter.
The former dominator of the cross-country skiing scene announced her decision on social media. "After two eventful years off the track, I have been given the opportunity to become part of the Norwegian Ski Association's cross-country program - and I want to give my dream of competing in the World Championships on home soil a chance," wrote the 36-year-old Johaug on Instagram. The Nordic World Championships will take place from February 26 to March 9 in Trondheim.
Johaug retired two years ago as one of the most successful female cross-country skiers for personal reasons. Her extensive palmarès includes four Olympic victories and 14 World Championship titles.
Her return does not come as a complete surprise. There were already signs of this last winter. Among other things, Johaug competed in the Engadin women's race over 17 kilometers at the beginning of March - and of course won in style.
