The Ducati rider won by 2.676 seconds ahead of KTM's Pedro Acosta, who made it onto the podium for the fourth time this season. Third place in Malaysia went to his Spanish compatriot Joan Mir.
Sprint winner Francesco Bagnaia, who had started from pole position, retired three laps before the end in third place due to a puncture.
