At the age of 41, Emmental wrestler Thomas Sempach has announced his immediate retirement from active wrestling.

In an open letter, the five-time Swiss champion justified his decision with physical strain and increasing professional demands as a farmer. A planned final appearance at the Emmental Wrestling Festival on May 3 will therefore not take place.
Sempach can look back on a great career: he has won a total of 125 crowns, including five federal crowns (2004, 2010, 2016, 2019, 2022), as well as two mountain crowns on the Schwägalp (2008) and on the Brünig (2016).
