Former golf star Tiger Woods undergoes back surgery for the seventh time and has to take another break.
The procedure on the intervertebral disc in his lower back was intended to relieve him of pain and mobility problems, the 49-year-old announced. "I already know that I made a good decision for my health and my back," Woods was quoted as saying.
The American did not provide any information about the further duration of his absence. Woods has not played in a tournament since last December. It was his second operation this year after he had to undergo treatment for a ruptured Achilles tendon in March. He already had another operation on his back just over a year ago.
Woods had the first in a series of back operations in April 2014. He recently felt pain again and had a medical examination. The top golfer announced that a herniated disc and an impaired spinal canal had been diagnosed. The procedure in New York was successful.
Woods' health has repeatedly made the headlines in recent years. In February 2021, he suffered several broken bones in his legs in a car accident and even had to fear amputation. Since then, Woods has only competed in a few select tournaments.
