The first female leader of the Tour de Romandie Féminin is Paula Blasi. The Spaniard wins the 4.4 km mountain time trial to Villars-sur-Ollon by a large margin.
Blasi distanced second-placed Urska Zigart from Slovenia by 17 seconds and third-placed Juliette Labous from France by 19 seconds. Steffi Häberlin (6th), the best Swiss rider, lost half a minute to the 22-year-old Spaniard, who celebrated her first victory at World Tour level. The ninth-placed Elise Chabbey from Geneva (0:32 back) was the second local to finish in the top 10.
Of the 93 riders originally registered, only 63 started the first stage in Huémoz. Five teams of six riders each were excluded from the start by the UCI. This was because the teams refused to take part in a test of GPS trackers. Among others, the Polish top favorite Katarzyna Niewiadoma and Noemi Rüegg from Zurich were excluded from the start.
A 123.2 km mountain stage will follow on Saturday in western Switzerland, with the final climb to La Tzoumaz deciding the day's victory - and perhaps also the overall classification. This is just under 13 km long and has an average gradient of 8.1 percent.
