Davos, Fribourg-Gottéron and Lausanne are the three top teams in the National League to suffer defeats in the last round of this year.
Bern shows morale against Rapperswil-Jona
In the first period, the shot ratio was 15:6 in favor of Bern, but the visitors from Rapperswil-Jona were still 2:0 ahead thanks to goals from Philippe Maillet (13th) and Tyler Moy (18th). SCB keeper Adam Reideborn did not cut the best figure on either goal. It was Maillet's first goal in his seventh game for the Lakers. However, the team from Berne saved the game in overtime thanks to two goals from Marc Marchon - he tied the game 2-2 111 seconds before the end of regulation time when the hosts were without a goalie. In the penalty shoot-out, the previously strong Rapperswil keeper Melvin Nyffeler was beaten three times. The Bernese thus also won the fourth shootout in the current championship, defeating the Lakers at home for the sixth time in a row.
Zug continues home series
Zug ended its mammoth program with a win. The team from central Switzerland beat leaders Davos 3-2 on penalties in their fifth game in eight days at home. Grégory Hofmann and Jan Kovar scored for EVZ in the shootout, while only Adam Tambellini was successful for HCD. The visitors had twice come from behind in regulation time. Zug, semi-finalists in the Champions Hockey League, celebrated their sixth home win in a row in all competitions. Previously, they had lost six times in a row against Davos.
ZSC Lions fulfill their duty
The fact that defending champions ZSC Lions have fallen short of their own expectations so far this season is also due to the results in front of their home crowd: eight of their first 17 home games were lost. Biel, the league's weakest away team in terms of points, came at just the right time. The Zurich team completed the compulsory task thanks to three powerplay goals in the final period, two of them by Derek Grant, to make it 4:1 (57'). The 2:4 by Linus Hultström (60.) was only cosmetic. The game was characterized by some unpleasant scenes.
Servette clearly wins the Léman derby
Genève-Servette gave Lausanne no chance in the Léman derby. Jesse Puljujärvi in double overtime, Jimmy Vesey with one more player and Josh Jooris scored within 164 seconds at the start of the middle third to make it 5:1 (25.). Geneva benefited from a five-minute penalty against Floran Douay (19). The game was thus decided. In the end, Servette prevailed 7:3. It thus also won its second home game of the season against Lausanne, after the first duel ended 0:11 away from home. LHC had already lost at home to Bern on Monday (2:3 n.V.), having previously won seven in a row.
Lugano defeats Langnau once again
The SCL Tigers had beaten Lugano six times in a row, but now that streak came to an end. Luca Fazzini put the Bianconeri 3:2 ahead for the first time in this game in the 39th minute on the power play and it stayed that way until 102 seconds before the end. Calvin Thürkauf then made it all clear with a shot into the empty net for the Ticino side, who had previously lost three in a row away from home.
Kloten defeats Fribourg thanks to a strong first period
As in the previous home game against the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers (5:2), Kloten also won the first period against Fribourg-Gottéron 3:0 in its favor. The three goals were scored by the hosts within 6:11 minutes. The 2-0 goal by Keanu Derungs (10th) was a shorthander after a hair-raising mistake by Fribourg defender Yannick Rathgeb - Gottéron had already conceded its sixth goal in a power play in the current championship. Although Fribourg came close again after Dario Meyer (42') made it 1:4, Jacob de la Rose only made it 3:4 with 36 seconds remaining. While Kloten celebrated their third home win in a row, the visitors lost for the first time after five victories. They thus failed their dress rehearsal for the Spengler Cup.
Rare away win for Ajoie
Ajoie defeated Ambri-Piotta 5-2 away from home and celebrated their fourth win in their 19th away game of the season. The team from Jura won despite 20:42 shots on goal. After Anttoni Honka had put the visitors 3-2 ahead for the second time in this game in the 38th minute, Jonathan Hazen (47th) and Jerry Turkulainen (52nd) increased the lead to 5-2 in the final period. Ambri had previously beaten Ajoie five times in a row.
