Marc Marquez will miss the next two Grand Prix races after his crash in Indonesia at the weekend. Despite a fracture, the MotoGP World Champion gets off lightly.
The Spanish Ducati rider, who has already been crowned world champion, suffered a ligament injury and a fracture of the coracoid process in his right shoulder, a bony projection of the shoulder blade.
As the seven-time world champion's racing team announced on Monday, no operation is required. However, in order to treat the injury conservatively, the affected shoulder must remain immobilized until full recovery. The Australian and Malaysian Grand Prix on the last two weekends in October will therefore take place without Marquez.
"Fortunately, the injury is not serious, but it is important to respect the recovery time," Marquez is quoted as saying in the statement. A connection with Marquez's previous injury to the same shoulder has been ruled out, the responsible doctors explained.
