Jonas Vingegaard is back in time for the Tour de France after an injury break. The winner of the last two years is again leading the Visma-Lease a Bike squad this year.
Vingegaard has not taken part in a race since his serious crash at the Tour of the Basque Country at the beginning of April. Belgian rider Wout van Aert, who also suffered a serious accident in the spring, is also one of the eight riders selected by the Dutch team.
Vingegaard can look back on two months of hard work after breaking his collarbone and several ribs and suffering a bruised lung in the Basque Country on April 4. "I'm looking forward to starting the Tour. The last few months have not been easy," the Dane is quoted as saying in a statement from his team. He is very excited to see where he stands. "I feel good and am very motivated."
The Tour de France begins on June 29 in Florence. This year's Giro winner Tadej Pogacar, who triumphed at the Tour of France in 2020 and 2021 and finished second behind Vingegaard in the last two years, is considered the top favorite for overall victory.
