EHC Visp only needs one more win to secure the Swiss League title against Basel. This would also give them the option of promotion.

Visp confirmed Friday's break against the qualification winners from Basel with a 3-2 win at home. The visitors took the lead twice and the Upper Valais team equalized twice. It was only when Andy Ritz made it 3:2 with exactly ten minutes to go that they were in front for the first time - and remained so until the end. This gives Visp a 3:1 lead in the series with four wins.

It now has the opportunity to clinch the title in the second-highest division with another away win in Basel on Tuesday. After that, it would have two more chances. Above all, such a victory would ensure that the league qualification for remaining in or being promoted to the National League would take place. Of the play-off finalists, only Visp is eligible for promotion and would face the loser of the play-off between Lugano and Ajoie.

Visp had some trouble in the qualifiers and only finished fourth, but in the playoffs coach Heinz Ehlers' team turned on the heat. 4:1 in the quarter-final derby against Sierre, 4:0 in the semi-final against Thurgau and now a 3:1 lead against Basel. The team scored particularly well in defense: in 13 games, they conceded only 15 goals.
