The Swiss eventers impress on the second day of the Concours Complet (formerly Military). Before the final jumping competition, they are - like Felix Vogg in the individual - in intermediate 4th place.

The 34-year-old Vogg showed an outstanding ride in the cross-country around the Palace of Versailles. Riding Dao de l'Ocean, he completed the 45-jump, five-kilometre course without any faults and beat the low time limit of 9 minutes and 2 seconds. Of the 64 riders who started, only nine others managed this.

As a result, the German equestrian remains on the 22.10 penalty points he earned in the dressage. In the individual classification, Vogg moved up from 5th to 4th place. He is only 0.1 points behind the third-placed Australian Christopher Burton and 4.3 points behind the leading German Michael Jung.

Mélody Johner on Toubleu de Rueire and Robin Godel on Grandeur de Lully also came through without faults, but not under the set limit. However, with 3.2 and 9.6 penalty points respectively, they kept their score within limits. The duo - in 30th and 26th place respectively - have nothing more to do with the medals in the individual competition.

However, their chances of precious metal are still intact in the team classification. After two of three categories, Switzerland is in 4th position with a cumulative 102.4 penalty points. The difference to Japan is 8.6 points, which equates to just over two penalties in the decisive jumping competition on Monday. The Olympic victory is likely to be decided between Great Britain (82.5 penalty points) and France (87.2).
