22 years after André Lange's gold medal, there is once again a German bobsleigh world champion in Lake Placid with Francesco Friedrich. The two-time double Olympic champion is crowned king of the two-man bobsleigh.
With two fastest times in four runs, the 34-year-old with pusher Alexander Schüller won the challenging track at Mount van Hoevenberg by a tiny 0.03 seconds ahead of his long-time rival Johannes Lochner, who only managed to break the exceptional pilot's dominance with Georg Fleischhauer in St. Moritz in 2023. Just 23-year-old Adam Ammour rounded off the Germans' strong performance with Benedikt Hertel in third place.
They were followed at a respectful distance by the American Frank Del Duca on his home track and the best Swiss duo Michael Vogt/Andreas Haas. The man from Schwyz, who had started the season late after a disc operation, was a full 1.62 seconds off the podium.
The flu-weakened Cédric Follador finished in a respectable 10th place. Timo Rohner had to make do with 17th place after a botched first day and problems with a steering cable in the third run.
