The ZSC Lions can still win after all: Marco Bayer's team prevails 4:1 in the cantonal derby in Kloten and thus celebrates its first championship victory after six defeats in a row.
If you include the two defeats in the Champions Hockey League, the Swiss champions have now gone eight games without a win in a row in all competitions. However, ZSC got back on the road to success in a duel with their cantonal rivals Kloten, who are also in crisis.
Captain Patrick Geering, Thierry Bader and top scorer Denis Malgin were the scorers in the hard-fought 4:1 victory and prevented the Lions from suffering a possible seventh championship defeat in a row - such a defeat would have meant setting a club negative record in the playoff era for the Zurich team. In the 1997/98 season, ZSC experienced a similar dry spell: a draw - still possible in that season - followed by seven defeats, another draw and a further defeat.
At the top of the table, HC Davos continued their winning run with a 5:3 win at home against the SCL Tigers. There was a sign of life from SC Bern, who won the Zähringen derby in Freiburg 2:1 after a penalty shoot-out and moved up from penultimate to 12th place.
In the other three games, Lausanne (5:1 against Ambri-Piotta), Servette (6:0 against Biel) and Lugano (3:0 against Rapperswil-Jona) all celebrated home victories: Only in Geneva and Lugano was the stadium not sold out on Saturday.
