Lausanne wins the rematch of last year's playoff final against the ZSC Lions 2:1 on penalties. Erik Brännström secures the extra point for LHC against the champions.

Last May, the ZSC Lions gave Lausanne no chance on their way to the Swiss championship title. In Sunday's rematch of this duel, LHC at least managed a little revenge. Thanks to two goals in the penalty shoot-out, the Vaud team finally prevailed and took two points from Zurich.

The decision in the goalie versus outfield player duel was the dramatic climax of a game in which two teams went toe-to-toe. Derek Grant put Zurich in front as early as the second minute, Lausanne responded in the second period on the power play in the person of Sami Niku.

Speaking of the powerplay: Lausanne had a golden opportunity to secure victory in overtime when Sven Andrighetto was sent to the penalty box. Despite a number of excellent scoring chances, the visitors were repeatedly thwarted by the brilliant reaction of Robin Zumbühl in the Zurich goal. The goalie celebrated his 27th birthday on Sunday - but he was unable to give himself and his teammates the gift of a win.

Drake Caggiula and Brännström beat Zumbühl, while his antipode Connor Hughes in the Lausanne box was only beaten by Pontus Aberg. This continues a remarkable series: whenever the LHC has had to go into overtime or extra time this season, the Vaud team has won. ZSC, on the other hand, is at the other end of the spectrum and has never been able to win in overtime.

For the Lions, it is yet another defeat after five wins in a row. Lausanne, meanwhile, climbed to second place thanks to their second win in a row.
