Thun win the derby, St. Gallen outclass Basel

FC St. Gallen cemented its place as the first runner-up to FC Thun. They beat FC Basel 3-0 in the 29th round, while Thun won the Bern derby against Young Boys 2-1.

St. Gallen impressively proved its status as number 2 in the Super League. The team from eastern Switzerland gave FC Basel no chance at home and led 3-0 after just half an hour. Defender Chima Okoroji was the unexpected match-winner for St. Gallen with two goals.

Because Lugano lost 3-1 at Lucerne on Saturday, St. Gallen extended their lead over the third-placed Ticino side to six points. Basel are already eight points behind.

Sixth-placed Young Boys still have to fight for a place in the championship round. They took the lead in the derby against Thun through Alvyn Sanches in the 7th minute. Valmir Matoshi and Nils Reichmuth turned things around in the Wankdorf after the break.

In the second half of the table, Luzern and Lausanne-Sport are still six points behind YB and FC Sion, who drew 1-1 with Winterthur. Lausanne-Sport celebrated a second victory at the Letzigrund in four days. After FC Zurich, they also beat GC (3:2). Kevin Mouanga, Olivier Custodio and Seydou Traoré turned a 0:1 lead into a decisive 3:1.

GC thus failed to close the gap on city rivals FCZ, who swapped places in the table with Geneva after their 2-1 defeat to Servette.
