King Wicki took control from the outset against the young Bernese wrestler Moser. The Lucerne native dominated the match, but took a long time to get the result. Wicki brought his opponent to the ground several times. On his first move, he was already close to victory, which he later achieved, again on the ground, by pressing down.

The giant duel between Giger and Staudenmann ended after a cautious six minutes, just as it had three years ago in Pratteln.

Werner Schlegel set an exclamation mark. The Toggenburg native defeated Pirmin Reichmuth from Central Switzerland in the very first move. Schlegel thus also won his second duel with the Zug player. Two years ago on the Rigi, he had already prevailed in the first swing. A good omen for Reichmuth: he went on to win all five rounds and the festival.

With Armon Orlik, a second top wrestler from north-eastern Switzerland achieved a prestigious victory. The Grisons native prevailed in a duel with Matthias Aeschbacher. At the anniversary wrestling festival in Appenzell, the match had ended in a draw.

After a long ground fight, Damian Ott did not achieve a valid result against Bernese double meter Adrian Walther. Together with Staudenmann, Walther ensured that the 1st round did not end in a debacle for the Bernese.
