Police in Germany have arrested two men from Wuppertal. The arrested men allegedly tried to extort millions from the family of former Formula 1 star Michael Schumacher.

According to the newspaper, the two men are from Wuppertal in Germany. They had tried to extort millions from Michael Schumacher's family.

"We are investigating a case of blackmail to the detriment of a celebrity and have executed arrest warrants in this case," said Wolf-Tilman Baumert, spokesman for the public prosecutor's office, to "Bild". "We cannot provide any further information at this time."

According to the newspaper, the two men are now to be brought before a magistrate. There are no details about the blackmail so far.

Schumachers have been victims of blackmail before

The Schumacher family has already been the victim of blackmail once before. In 2017, a man threatened the family by email.

He wanted to scam them out of 900,000 euros. The perpetrator was quickly identified by the police as he had given his own account number.

The man was later sentenced to one year and nine months on probation for commercial extortion. He also received a fine of 4,500 euros and 50 hours of community service. He also had to undergo therapy.
