Axl Rose is facing allegations of sexual assault.
The singer of the band Guns N' Roses allegedly raped a model in a hotel in 1989.
The now 61-year-old woman filed charges against her peer with the state of New York, but Rose's lawyer denies the allegations.
Axl Rose, frontman of the US hard rock band Guns N' Roses, is facing allegations of rape. A now 61-year-old ex-model of "Penthouse" magazine filed a lawsuit against the star of the same age in the Supreme Court of the State of New York on Wednesday (local time).
According to the statement of claim, he assaulted her in the suite of a hotel in New York City in 1989. Since the alleged sexual assault, she has suffered from anxiety and depression, and her career has also been affected.
The plaintiff is demanding unspecified damages from the singer, including for bodily injury, causing suffering, mental anguish, humiliation, anxiety and economic loss.
After the crime, she had avoided nightclubs and gatherings where she could have met Rose or listened to his music. However, such social contacts were important for her career, according to the statement of claim.
The lawsuit was filed with reference to a law in New York State that allows adult victims to report cases of sexual abuse that occurred decades ago. The provision expires this Thursday (November 23).
No memory of meeting
Rose had the allegations denied via his lawyer Alan Gutman. "In plain language, this incident never happened," he said in a statement. It is remarkable that the "fabricated allegations" were made just the day before the filing deadline in New York State.
His client had possibly once taken a fan photo with the plaintiff, but could not remember ever having met or spoken to her. So far, he had not heard anything about the allegations. "Mr. Rose is confident that this case will be decided in his favor."
"He treated her like property"
In her lawsuit, the woman said she met Rose at a Manhattan nightclub in February 1989, after which the singer invited her to a party in his hotel suite. According to the lawsuit, she saw Rose having sex with another model before he became angry with the woman and kicked her out of his suite.
He then turned to her, dragged her across the floor by her hair and tied her hands with pantyhose before raping her. "He treated her like property for his sexual pleasure only," the complaint said.
The woman has made the allegations in the past, including in her memoir, which was published in 2016, and in a 2021 documentary in which women spoke about sexual abuse in the music industry.
