- He still wants to finish his current tour. Seven concerts remain.
Blues musician Philipp Fankhauser, who suffers from myelofibrosis, is withdrawing from the public eye for around six months. The malignant bone marrow disease requires a stem cell transplant.
The musician will have to go into complete isolation for four to six weeks in order to have the diseased bone marrow removed, his PR office announced in a press release on Thursday.
They are confident that he will be able to resume his work "in new, old freshness" by his 60th birthday on February 20, 2024 at the latest.
Illness makes work increasingly difficult
Philipp Fankhauser has known about his illness for several years. However, thanks to medical care and medication, he has been able to lead a "largely normal life" to date. However, the fact that his anemia causes fatigue and shortness of breath is making his work as a stage performer increasingly difficult.
The bluesman will play seven more concerts before he is admitted to hospital. The last one will take place on July 8 in Walenstadt.
