The 24-year-old music talent from Biel will perform his song "The Code" in Malmö, the venue for this year's ESC.
Nemo: "Finding myself was a difficult process"
The non-binary artist Nemo has been living in Berlin for some time now. With the song "The Code", the exceptional talent has written a musical work of art that aims to combine rap, drum 'n' bass and opera.
Nemo says: "The Code is about the journey I began with the realization that I am neither a man nor a woman. Finding myself was a long and often difficult process for me."
Music has helped Nemo to find himself in recent years. Non-binary people do not identify with any specific gender and feel neither male nor female in their bodies.
Their pronouns are "They/Them", the English plural form of "Sie/Sie", which is not assigned to a single gender.
Nemo follows in big footsteps
The 68th edition of the ESC will take place from May 7 to 11 in Malmö, Sweden. Switzerland will compete in the second semi-final on May 9, 2024.
Nemo has big shoes to fill: after a long dry spell, things have been going much better for Swiss artists at the Eurovision Song Contest in recent years.
Last year, singer Remo Forrer traveled to the ESC in Liverpool. He qualified for the ESC final with the song "Watergun", where he ultimately finished in 20th place.
Marius Bear made it to the ESC final in 2022 with "Boys Do Cry" and finished in 17th place.
Gjon's Tears was even more successful in 2021 with "Tout l'univers". He won the jury vote and landed in third place with the audience votes.
And Luca Hänni took fourth place in Tel Aviv in 2019 with his song "She Got Me", his best placing since 1993.
