Taylor Swift played the first of three concerts in Rio de Janeiro on Friday evening.
The famous statue of Christ with the words "Welcome to Brazil" was even lit up in honor of the US singer. However, the concert series was overshadowed by the death of a fan.

The woman's death was confirmed to the Brazilian daily newspaper "Folha de S. Paulo" shortly afterwards by a relative.
Taylor Swift: "There are people who need water here"
Brazil is currently suffering from an extreme heatwave. In Rio de Janeiro alone, temperatures of over 40 degrees have been measured these days.
The perceived temperature in the stadium where Taylor Swift's concert took place is even said to have been around 60 degrees Celsius. It is said that thousands of fainting spells were recorded during the show.
Fans claim that they were denied water in the stadium. Some concertgoers also posted videos on X (formerly Twitter) of Taylor Swift interrupting her performance and asking for help for suffering fans.
"There are people here who need water," says the singer, pointing to an area in the audience. "Whoever is responsible for this, please provide it. Can I get a sign that you know where they are?"
Taylor Swift also repeatedly hands out water bottles to concertgoers herself during her performance.
Taylor Swift addresses her fans on Instagram
Shortly after her performance, the 33-year-old singer wrote a handwritten message to her fans on Instagram.
In it, Taylor Swift expressed her shock at the death during the concert:
"I can't believe I'm writing these words, but with a shattered heart I have to say that we lost a fan tonight before my show. I can't begin to tell you how devastated I am."
The singer is devastated by the loss and describes the deceased woman as "incredibly beautiful and way too young".
Taylor Swift also explained that she would not address the fan's death on stage because it would be too difficult for her. She added: "It's the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring the show to Brazil."
