Five years ago, Thiel suddenly disappeared from the scene. Two years later, she reappeared - with more weight and a confession: "I have an eating disorder."
As a result, she was once again omnipresent on social media and has more than a million followers on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok. She also recently took part in the TV show "Let 's Dance".
Sophia Thiel broke down emotionally after "Let's Dance"
Sophia Thiel has now withdrawn from the public eye once again. The influencer's last post on Instagram appeared on May 17. Four weeks earlier, she was eliminated from "Let's Dance" and did not appear in the final show as a result.
In an interview with the news magazine "Spiegel", Thiel explains that she fell ill after her appearances on "Let's Dance" and suffered an emotional breakdown.
She continued: "Unfortunately, I also had food attacks again and fell into a depressive phase due to the loss of control. That's why I completely withdrew from social media, I needed a break."
Sophia Thiel: "Maybe I will start a family"
When asked whether social media is not good for her, Sophia Thiel replies: "I still enjoy my job. I have resolved to take a social media break after stressful phases in the future, in other words to really take something like a vacation."
However, she has recently realized that the constant presence is not good for her. Fortunately, her current situation is "not as bad as in 2019". She knows "that you can never completely get rid of an eating disorder".
However, she has now learned better how to deal with such depressive phases and take the necessary steps immediately: "I immediately contacted my therapist and resumed my sessions."
Thiel does not tell Der Spiegel how long the break will last this time. She is not making any plans for the future: "I don't have a plan for the next three, four or five years, for any area of my life."
She continues: "Maybe I'll start a family, maybe I'll move again. So far, everything has always turned out as it should - and I trust that it will continue to do so."
