Borussia Mönchengladbach secured an important victory for its Swiss coach Gerardo Seoane with a 3:2 win against Heidenheim in the Bundesliga. Bayer Leverkusen put a stop to Eintracht Frankfurt's run.
Mönchengladbach fell behind early against Heidenheim, turned the game around thanks to two goals from Tim Kleindienst, among others, but had to tremble for the three points after the 3:2 final goal in the last ten minutes. Mönchengladbach were thus able to pull away from the relegation places.
Things were also turbulent in Leverkusen. Nigerian Victor Boniface went from hero to zero for Granit Xhaka's team. He missed the early lead from the penalty spot in the 9th minute, then scored the winning goal 20 minutes before the end to make it 2:1. Eintracht Frankfurt lost for the first time since 24 August and five wins and two draws in the Bundesliga and Europa League.
The champions thus caught up with Bayern Munich, who do not play until Saturday evening against VfB Stuttgart. Leipzig (2:0 in Mainz) are at least temporarily top of the table, two points ahead of Freiburg (3:1 against Augsburg) and three ahead of Bayern.
