Switzerland will be competing at the European Beach Volleyball Championships in the Netherlands with two men's and two women's teams, but without the Olympic bronze medallists Tanja Hüberli/Nina Brunner.

Immediately after winning the bronze medal in Paris on Friday evening, Tanja Hüberli and Nina Brunner had not yet decided whether they would actually play at the European Championships. Even then, however, it was clear to the two-time European champions that it would be difficult for them to play from Tuesday onwards. The two players from Schwyz and Zug have now sensibly decided to take a break.

Nevertheless, Switzerland is very strongly represented in the women's event. Esmée Böbner/Zoé Vergé-Dépré, a duo that reached the Olympic quarter-finals in Paris, will be at the start.

Anouk Vergé-Dépré and Joana Mäder were able to prepare particularly well for the European Championships after narrowly missing out on qualifying for the Olympics. The 2020 European champions will be fresh and highly motivated. Both women's teams have a real chance of winning a medal.

The Swiss men are further away from the best. Marco Krattiger and Florian Breer are seeded number 24. Quentin Métral is teaming up once again with his former partner Yves Haussener, as the points are only enough to make it into the main draw.

The matches will be played from Tuesday to Sunday in four different cities in the Netherlands. The semi-finals and finals will take place in The Hague.
