FC Basel pick up their first points of the season thanks to a clear 3-0 away win against Grasshoppers. Lugano took revenge for their loss in the cup final with a 3:1 win against Servette.
Thierno Barry, of all people, scored twice for Basel. The 21-year-old Frenchman had been withdrawn from the squad in the last game for disciplinary reasons. On his comeback, he scored a brace, as he did in the first game of the season, underlining his value to coach Fabio Celestini's team. New signing Bénie Traoré, who scored the opening goal at the Letzigrund and also contributed an assist, also made a good impression. For Basel, who had started the season with two defeats, it was a small stroke of liberation, while GC is still winless after three rounds.
In Lugano, an unfortunate action by Joël Mall decided the game. The Servette goalkeeper, of all people, who had been celebrated as a hero two months earlier in the cup final against Lugano, looked bad in the 2-1 defeat. Bradley Mazikou's back pass rolled through his legs and into his own net. Lugano thus turned the game around, in which the home team had fallen behind to Dereck Kutesa's third goal of the season in the 61st minute. Substitute Hadj Mahmoud equalized with a header and Renato Steffen, who also came on as a substitute, provided the spectacular finish. It was Lugano's third win in three games and Servette's first loss of points in four.
