Carlos Alcaraz is through to the semi-finals of the Olympic tennis tournament. Alexander Zverev, the 2021 Olympic champion, is eliminated.
The French Open and Wimbledon winner Alcaraz also went straight sets in his fourth match against the American Tommy Paul (ATP 13), but had to come back from a break down to win 6:3, 7:6 (9:7) in the second set and fend off a set point in the tie-break.
The tournament is over for Alexander Zverev. The German 2021 Olympic champion and world number four lost 5:7, 5:7 to the in-form Wimbledon semi-finalist Lorenzo Musetti from Italy.
The dream final between Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic is still possible. The Serbian will face the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in his quarter-final on Thursday evening.
