Chiara Leone qualifies for the final in the 50 m small bore three-position match in third place. Nina Christen, the Olympic champion from Tokyo in this discipline, remains in 21st place.
Nina Christen will not be able to repeat her gold coup from three years ago in Tokyo in the three-position match. The 30-year-old from Nidwalden only came 21st in the qualification at the shooting range in Châteauroux and thus clearly missed out on qualifying for the final of the best eight shooters. Having already won bronze in the 10 m air rifle event in Tokyo, this time Christen failed to qualify in 23rd place.
But Switzerland's medal hopes for the final competition on Friday morning are still intact: Chiara Leone showed a convincing performance in the three series of 20 shots prone, standing and kneeling and finished in third place behind the American Sagen Maddalena and the Chinese Qiongyue Zhang.
The 26-year-old from Aargau, who is competing at the Olympic Games for the first time, established her status as the best European in the qualification, which has already earned her the gold medal at the European Championships in Osijek, Croatia, this year.
