Alexandre Dällenbach qualifies convincingly for the final of the Olympic modern pentathlon on Saturday.
One day after finishing 5th in fencing at the start, the former triathlete, who lives on the island of La Réunion, finished 2nd in his semi-final series in the four disciplines on Friday. To progress, he had to finish in the top 9. The cards will be reshuffled on Saturday, with the first of the four final competitions starting at 5.30 pm.
Dällenbach would be the first Swiss medal winner in this sport, which includes riding for the last time in Paris. The last time Switzerland was represented at the Olympic Games was in 2008 in Beijing in the modern pentathlon. Belinda Schreiber flirted with a medal back then as the clear outsider, but fell back from 3rd to 11th place in the end.
