Four months before their first World Cup participation, the Caribbean state of Curaçao has to change coach. Dick Advocaat resigns for personal reasons.

Acvocaat (78), who surprisingly led Curaçao to the World Cup, is retiring due to his daughter's illness. Advocaat is replaced with immediate effect by his Dutch compatriot Fred Rutten (63), once coach at Schalke.

Curaçao will compete against Australia and China at a tournament in Australia in March under the new national coach. At the World Cup, Curaçao will face Germany, Ivory Coast and Ecuador in Group F in the USA.
