Splinters from Monday: The Tour de France rider's scenario, David Raum's grandma and partying among friends.
Orange and yellow party in Munich
Fans of the Netherlands and Romania are planning an unusual event for the round of 16 clash between the two countries in Munich on Tuesday: they want to get in the mood together before the game and celebrate together. According to the organizers, there will be a "party atmosphere with a stage program" in the fan zone at the Olympiapark from 13:00 to 14:30. "It's not often that fans want to celebrate together in a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere before a decisive match. We're looking forward to the Dutch and Romanian fans," said Olympic Park boss Marion Schöne. A shuttle bus will take them to the Munich European Championship arena after the preliminary program.
England's contrast
England's unattractive style of play has not gone down well with the home fans and in the international press, despite their luxury squad. In the circle of the national team of Switzerland's quarter-final opponents, on the other hand, there was a lot of sunshine even before the happy victory in the round of 16 against Slovakia (2:1 n.V.). "There was a lot to celebrate, we have a very good feeling in our camp. The players enjoyed their time, even off the pitch," said Southgate before the Slovakia match.
The Three Lions have celebrated Bellingham's 21st birthday and the birth of Phil Foden's third child in recent days. The England international also has a differentiated view of their performance: "Apart from their goal, we were pretty good. We had a lot of control, we were in very good areas, we were very dangerous," said Bellingham after the near-miss on Sunday.
"Grandpa's happy too?"
German full-back David Raum always makes time for his granddad. The 26-year-old commented on a YouTube video that has attracted a lot of attention. Raum is out and about in the German quarter with teammate Joshua Kimmich when a call comes in on his cell phone. Everyone can follow the short chat. "It just happened by chance. I wanted to hang up a nice flag with Jo. Yes, when Grandma calls, you don't press away. You answer it straight away." In conversation with his grandma, you can hear Raum asking: "Do you always watch the games diligently?" and "Grandpa's happy so far too?"
Conversation at the Tour de France
The European Championships are also a big topic in the Tour de France peloton. On Monday, it was mainly between the French and Belgians, as TV pictures from the race revealed. Arnaud de Lie, with his Belgian champion's jersey on his shoulders, explained to Frenchman Bryan Coquard in the first few kilometers of the third stage on Monday how the "Rode Duivels" made it to the quarter-finals: "Mbappé scored first with a penalty, then Kevin de Bruyne equalized with a beautiful free kick into the right crossbar, and in the 92nd minute Openda scored the winning goal."
