It was only a brief appearance for Alexis Bayard at the Olympic Games in Paris. The 28-year-old from Valais was eliminated from the epee fencing tournament at his very first appearance.

Bayard lost 9:15 to Belgium's Neisser Loyola in the round of 16. The decision in favor of Loyola, who is ranked three places lower in the world rankings, was made in the middle third when the Cuban-born fencer landed five consecutive goals and turned a 4:5 into a 9:5.

Bayard, who was only able to compete in Paris thanks to a wild card, is the last Swiss fencer to be eliminated. Pauline Brunner also failed to reach the round of 16 on Saturday.
