The first medals in sailing at the 2024 Olympic Games will not be awarded until Friday due to a persistent lull in the wind.
The sailors experienced another difficult day on the coast off Marseille. The wind remained weak throughout the day, which is why the planned medal races could not be held. The two Geneva 49er sailors Sébastien Schneiter/Arno de Planta will compete again on Friday.
Windsurfer Elia Colombo, on the other hand, missed out on the medal series. The 28-year-old from Ticino finished in a thankless 11th place in his Olympic debut; the top 10 will sail for the medals on Friday. Colombo's classification is particularly bitter because he came very close to the top 10 again with a race win in the 13th race. However, because the last two races could not be sailed, this performance went unrewarded.
The ILCA 6 sailors started the competition with just one race. They also had to return to port afterwards due to a lack of wind. Maud Jayet from Geneva finished in an unsatisfactory 16th place. According to her own statements, she particularly struggled with the heat.
