Three-time world champion Grant Holloway dominates the 110 m hurdles at the US trials. In 12.86 seconds, he comes within six hundredths of the world record.
The record has been held by Aries Merritt since 2012. The American crossed the finish line in Brussels in 12.80. Holloway's best is 12.81, set at the 2021 trials, but he knows that his top form at this time of year is no guarantee for Paris: At the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, he was beaten by Jamaican Hansle Parchment.
Freddie Crittenden (12.93) and Daniel Roberts (12.96) also used the tailwind of just 2.0 m/s to clock times under the 13-second mark. Jason Joseph, 7th in the world championships, is still trying to break this barrier.
