Bronze medal winners Tanja Hüberli and Nina Brunner are greeted by numerous fans at the Maison Suisse on Saturday evening.
The Central Swiss beach volleyball duo had won the match for third place on Friday evening.
They were "happy, overwhelmed and a little tired", said Hüberli, adding with a smile when asked: "But only from the sport." The bitter semi-final defeat was difficult to digest at first, said Brunner. "But then we got our focus back pretty quickly and told ourselves: we have to get up and seize the opportunity to win an Olympic medal." They did this in impressive fashion.
Nora Willi, President of Swiss Volley, conveyed words of thanks from the association, and the President of the Swiss Confederation, Viola Amherd, also congratulated them - in a letter presented to Hüberli and Brunner.
It is still unclear whether the defending champions will take part in the European Championships in the Netherlands, which begin on Tuesday. The topic was avoided at the ceremony. For the two-time European champions and now Olympic bronze medallists, the focus is on enjoying themselves. It is quite possible that 31-year-old Hüberli from Schwyz and Brunner from Zug, who is three years younger, will also be "a little tired" on Sunday.
