Tanja Hüberli and Nina Brunner will face Melissa Humana-Paredes/Brandie Wilkerson in the semi-finals of the Olympic beach volleyball tournament.
The Canadians beat Spain's Daniela Alvarez Mendoza/Tania Moreno in two sets in the quarter-finals.
Humana-Paredes/Wilkerson showed a veritable run of improvement at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. After two defeats at the start of the tournament - including against Esmée Böbner/Zoé Vergé-Dépré - they only avoided an early exit with a win in their final group match. In the round of 16, they then defeated Kristen Nuss/Taryn Kloth from the USA, who finished third at the World Championships, in two sets.
The European champions Hüberli/Brunner were unbeaten on Tuesday and advanced to the semi-finals on Thursday (17.00) without losing a set.
