15,940 runners take part in the 90th Murtenlauf. The victories go to the Kenyans Shadrack Kenduiywo in the men's race and Carolina Gitonga in the women's race.
Several Swiss Olympic athletes such as Mathias Kyburz, Tadesse Abraham and Fabienne Schlumpf competed in the elite field. Kyburz finished second in the men's race, 72 seconds behind. In the women's race, Fabienne Schlumpf finished second, 42 seconds behind the Kenyan winner.
The organizers were satisfied with the anniversary edition of the 17.17 km race from Murten to Fribourg. "Unlike other comparable running events, the race is becoming increasingly popular. Almost 16,000 participants are proof of this."
