Preparations for the European Championship round of 16 against Italy have begun. On Tuesday, however, the Swiss national team completed a special training session.
Instead of the usual training sessions, the program included a test match against VfB Stuttgart's U19s. The Swiss team included players who had received little or no playing time in the group stage. The top performers were spared in order to manage their workload. The game, which lasted two 30-minute periods, ended with a 3:0 victory for the Swiss.
Coach Murat Yakin's team will continue training at Stuttgart's Waldau Stadium until Friday. After the final training session, the team will travel to Berlin, this time by plane. The Swiss traveled to Cologne and Frankfurt by train and, with one exception, returned the same way.
On Saturday (18:00), the Swiss will play the round of 16 against Italy in the Olympic Stadium, where the final will be played two weeks later.
