Aline Seitz, the last Swiss athlete in action at the Summer Games in Paris, misses out on an Olympic diploma in the omnium. The track cyclist finished in a solid 12th place.
At the halfway point, the 27-year-old from Aargau still had her sights set on the diploma places in the Vélodrome National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. Ninth in the scratch and eleventh in the time trial, she had made a good start in the supreme discipline of track cycling. However, Seitz was eliminated early on in the subsequent elimination race, which meant that she had too much to lose in the final points race, in which she secured another 21 points.
As in 2021, the Olympic champion was the American Jennifer Valente. Silver went to Daria Pikulik from Poland and bronze to Ally Wollaston from New Zealand.
The small Swiss track delegation thus left Paris without a diploma. Alex Vogel had previously finished outside the top 8 in eleventh place in the omnium and after an early crash and 14th place in the Madison Seitz alongside Michelle Andres. Three years ago in Japan, back then with a track foursome, Swiss Cycling had still achieved three diploma places on the track.
