After the change of coach, Young Boys celebrate their first home win of the season in the Super League. The champions win 2:1 against the previous leaders Luzern.
Three minutes shortly after the break were enough for YB to make a real breakthrough. Joël Monteiro in the 47th minute and Cedric Itten in the 50th were more energetic in front of the Lucerne goal and scored with powerful finishes. Although the champions were still unable to score a goal in their tenth game of the season, the two goals were enough to secure their first home win.
The new start after the resignation of head coach Patrick Rahmen and the return of interim coach Joël Magnin, who had already successfully stepped in once in the spring, was thus a success. All that glitters is not suddenly gold, but as bottom of the table, only the result counts for YB at the moment.
However, they earned their second full success of the current championship after a win in Winterthur thanks to a strong first half in which YB controlled the game and forced FC Luzern, who had arrived from central Switzerland as leaders, into a defensive stance. Magnin had brought six new players into the starting eleven compared to the defeat in Basel before the national team break, and one of them, Itten, set up the 1:0 with a header and scored the 2:0.
Nevertheless, the victory was still in danger in the final half-hour. Luca Jaquez made the most of the fourth good chance within a few minutes to score the equalizer and, after a lull, Lars Villiger missed two excellent chances to equalize. The result was the second defeat of the season in the sold-out Wankdorf - Lucerne's first away from home. Bern thus remains a tough place to play for coach Mario Frick's team.
