The Welsh Football Association is parting ways with national coach Robert Page after four years. The announcement was made on Friday.
After failing to qualify for the European Championship finals in Germany and recent disappointing performances in the test matches against Gibraltar (0:0) and Slovakia (0:4), the 49-year-old Page had come under increasing criticism. Ultimately, the fact that he led Wales to the 2021 European Championship and, a year later, to their first World Cup appearance since 1958 no longer helped him.
Page initially took over the role on an interim basis in November 2020 as successor to Ryan Giggs, who was involved in a lawsuit, and was finally appointed head coach in September 2022. Those responsible have not yet announced who will take over as national team coach in Wales after Page.
