Of the two Swiss riders at the start of the women's Tour de France, only Noemi Rüegg was able to keep up with the leaders. The 23-year-old Olympic seventh placed 26th in the sprint.

Eight days after the Olympic road race, Elise Chabbey, ranked 18th in Paris, finished 146th, 2:22 minutes behind.

The winner of the 123 km stage from Rotterdam to The Hague and thus the first leader of the Tour is Charlotte Kool from the Netherlands. She won the sprint in her home country ahead of Finland's Anniina Ahtosalo and Italy's Elisa Balsamo. It was Kool's first victory of the season.

The favorite Lorena Wiebes dropped out of the decision at the end of a stage without any real race moves due to a mechanical problem 200 meters before the finish line. Last year's Tour winner Demi Vollering had a quiet day and finished in 35th place, the same time as the winner.

There are two stages on Tuesday's program. In the morning there will be a short 67 km section between Dordrecht and Rotterdam, before a 6.3 km time trial through the streets of Rotterdam in the late afternoon.
