Serbia's water polo team are Olympic champions for the third time in a row.
The team led by captain Nikola Jaksic and title guarantor Dusan Mandic won the final against Croatia 13:11 in the La Défense Arena on Sunday.
Only Great Britain (four titles between 1908 and 1920) and Hungary (three titles from 2000 to 2008) had previously achieved Olympic hat-tricks in water polo. Serbia's triumph in Paris is surprising in that the team only finished 4th in the group stage with three defeats from five games and came close to being eliminated in the quarter-finals against Greece (12:11).
In addition to the three Olympic victories, Mandic's extraordinary palmarès also includes the 2015 World Cup title, three European Championship titles and four triumphs in the World League.
