St. Gallen are well on their way to the Conference League play-offs. After the 2:0 home win against the Poles of Slask Wroclaw, the Eastern Swiss can go into the away game with confidence.
The St. Gallen forward could also be relied upon on Wednesday evening at Kybunpark, which was packed with over 15,000 spectators. Chadrac Akolo scored after less than five minutes and a perfect combination across numerous stations to make it 1:0. Striking partner Willem Geubbels made it 2:0 shortly before the break after a misplaced pass by the Poles and a quick pass into the deep by Akolo. The two attackers are on dream form after six games this season: Akolo has four goals and two assists, Geubbels three goals and two assists.
St. Gallen's victory was well deserved, even though the Poles came close to scoring several times. The crossbar and repeatedly the strong goalie Lawrence Ati Zigi prevented the Poles from scoring. St. Gallen can take the numerous scoring chances created by the visitors as a warning ahead of the second leg in Wroclaw in a week's time. The 2:0 is good groundwork, but not a preliminary decision for coach Enrico Maassen's team, who will host Grasshoppers in the Super League on Sunday between the two clashes against Slask.
