FC Sion notched up their third win in their fourth game. The promoted team beat FC Winterthur 2-0 at home in front of 9500 spectators.
FC Winterthur experienced five horror minutes in the Tourbillon shortly after the break, which decided the match. First, Fabian Rohner suffered an unfortunate knee injury through no fault of his opponent. While the new signing from FC Zurich was carried off on a stretcher, Sion captain Joël Schmied scored from a corner kick to put the hosts 1-0 up. Two minutes later, FCW striker Antoine Baroan was guilty of stupidity, which referee Sandro Schärer deemed an assault, resulting in a red card. The Frenchman's light grip on Kevin Bua's head would have been sufficiently punished with a warning.
Winterthur had been harmless before the start of the second half and even more so when outnumbered. Sion missed several good opportunities to score again before Dejan Djokic made it 2-0 in the 85th minute.
