The USA women's soccer team have reached the final of the Olympic tournament for the sixth time. They beat Germany 1:0 after extra time in the semi-final in Lyon.
Sophia Smith scored the late match-winner in the 95th minute in front of around 15,000 spectators. Although the Germans were without two key players in captain Alexandra Popp and striker Lea Schüller, the underdogs successfully held out for a long time. However, coach Horst Hrubesch's team were unable to prevent the record winners from reaching their sixth final in their eighth Olympic tournament.
World champions Spain and Brazil will determine the second finalist in Marseille.
