It was a seemingly harmless back pass in the 78th minute. But when Mall tries to receive the ball, it bounces slightly and rolls through the Geneva goalkeeper's legs. After this unfortunate action, the visitors suddenly found themselves 2-1 down. Until shortly beforehand, they had been sniffing their fourth win in four games.

After just over an hour, Dereck Kutesa had put Servette ahead with his third goal of the season. Substitute Hadj Mahmoud equalized in the 73rd minute with a header from a corner kick by Renato Steffen, who also came on as a substitute. Steffen finished off the scoring with a beautiful flick. The three goals for Lugano were scored within eleven minutes.

In doing so, the Ticino side gained revenge for their loss in the cup final two months ago, in which Mall was celebrated as a hero. Thanks to the win - their third in three games - Lugano took over the lead in the Super League table. Servette are level on points, but have played one game more.
