A jury in the USA has awarded a sportswoman more than 13 million dollars (around 11.6 million Swiss francs) in compensation for a fall on a sidewalk in Seattle. The jury ruled that the city and the owners of a residential building would have to pay the equivalent of around twelve million euros, as reported by the Seattle Times newspaper.

A US jury awarded her the payment.
According to her lawsuit, she fell on a section of sidewalk that was constantly covered in water and algae.
In a press release issued by her attorneys, 53-year-old Lesley Mettler Auld said she would not be able to walk again after her fall on a sidewalk in the Queen Anne neighborhood and had difficulty even walking. "Today, a full 34 months after the fall, I still have to pull myself up the stairs in my house on my hands and knees," she said.
According to her lawyers, the fitness trainer completed numerous ultramarathons, i.e. runs longer than the normal marathon distance of 42.2 kilometers. According to her lawsuit, she fell on a section of sidewalk that was constantly covered in water and algae. Other residents of the house testified in court that they had also fallen there. Mettler Auld seriously injured her knee in the fall and had to undergo several operations.
