The 14-year-old was out and about with some friends in the Marktplatz area at 3.30 pm, as reported by the St. Gallen cantonal police on Sunday. He, two of his colleagues and the initially unknown youth then made their way to Magnihalden.

There, the unidentified man suddenly turned to the 14-year-old Swiss boy and pushed him against a house wall. He then strangled the 14-year-old and took cash amounting to 110 francs from him, according to reports. He then threatened him with a knife and fled in an unknown direction.

The 14-year-old then filed a complaint with the St. Gallen cantonal police. Around three hours later, the St. Gallen city police were able to stop a 16-year-old Afghan at the main railway station who matched the signaling. He had also been carrying a knife.

He was arrested and handed over to the St.Gallen cantonal police, it was reported. The 16-year-old will now be reported to the juvenile prosecutor's office of the canton of St.Gallen.
