Municipal finances 73 million from the Lower Basel region flows into the Upper Basel region
The donor municipalities will pay around CHF 76 million into the 2024 financial equalization scheme of the canton of Basel-Landschaft. The recipient municipalities receive CHF 68 million of this. Almost without exception, the finances flow from the lower part of the canton close to the city to the rural upper part of the canton, as can be seen from the financial equalization statistics published on Tuesday.

The difference of around 8 million francs serves as a fluctuation reserve and flows into the equalization fund, it says.
Of the 86 municipalities in Basel, 21 are designated as donor municipalities based on their tax capacity. Almost all of them come from the district of Arlesheim, which is close to the city. Only Birsfelden and Ettingen are among the recipient municipalities.
In turn, the 65 recipient municipalities are almost exclusively located in the districts of Liestal, Sissach, Laufen and Waldenburg.
At CHF 13.6 million and CHF 11.3 million respectively, the municipalities of Allschwil and Binningen pay the most money into the financial and resource equalization. On the other hand, Frenkendorf with CHF 4.58 million and Gelterkinden with CHF 4.29 million are among the largest recipient municipalities.
